Developed for: BSV Arquitectos
Type of project: Refurbishment
In the project to refurbish the building in Calle Menendez Pelayo in Madrid, we contributed various distinguishing elements. Both sliding and folding connecting doors were lacquered in white. In the case of the windows, these were designed with balconies and swing and outward openings, which were given the same colour as the doors, skirting board and cupboards inside the building whereas pearl grey was used for the exterior, respecting the design of the front of the building. The doors on the fitted wooden wardrobes have a push-to-move folding mechanism. Inside, there are spaces and clear glass-front wooden drawers. We revamped the main staircase and wooden railing with a matte varnish showing the grain of the wood, which lends the space its own unmistakable style. Also noteworthy is the entrance door lacquered in black with gold elements.
Challenges of the project:
The biggest challenge in this project derived from achieving a modern-day look for the house without forgetting to maintain its classical nature. For this reason elements like bow windows were a distinguishing element for the building and managed to achieve that distinctive, classic appearance.
